What is this?
this is on the rear guard of my 3.2 carrera and i am not really sure what it is
Rust was my first thought but this has been like this for about 8 years gradually spreading but nothing breaking through and the underside is all as it should be. I really have no idea but was wondering if there had been a repair here and something is reacting...any ideas anyone. I would like to have an idea before I take it in to be fixed img]http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads22/photo1361087481.jpg[/img] |
Paul the picture didn't post

it looks to me that it was a repair were they did not use a E-primer (etch or epoxy) before they used a filler primer .
it looks like there are some very light sand scratches on the upper right part of the photo ? |
I was getting ready to post earlier and say I thought it looked like rust then I saw the striations 962 pointed out. I recalled him commenting about that type of mark in the past. So I decided not to post to see what he had to say.
962 could the rest be some rust building as well? 962, Also didn't you once say those "sanding scratch" looking striations as in the picture also had something to do with not thoroughly removing a degreaser or throughly allowing it to dry? I recall you saying something about using two towels one to clean and one to wipe. One foot at a time to thoroughly clean/remove the product. |
they could be wipe down marks but i really don't think so . if they were deaper i might tend to think so .
there could well be some rust starting under what we are seeing ? once the under coats start to delam then moisture will get under it and then it will start to rust . |
thanks for the comments. I dont think there is any rust because it has been like it so long and always garaged but I will get it sorted in the next couple of weeks and post the reason
|
i like to see it with just the top coat removed .
