New project - 1970T
 

And so begins my new project.....

I just bought a 1970 911T........previous owner converted to 80SC look and did a really crappy job, and i've bought it with the intention to bring it back to 1970, not necessarily as a show car, but a fun car and fun project for myself

I've had 11 911's prior to this one, mostly 87/88's and 993's....this is my first early 911, and my first major project (all others were minor mechanical and cosmetic)

I know this will not be easy......or cheap (as i've warned my wife)

Car arrived on Saturday and i've spent the weekend tearing it apart to see what surprises i'm in for. I wasn't able to see the car before buying, but had a local friend in that area go over for me (told him to bring a fridge magnet to see how much fiberglass there was.....surprisingly not much at all)

The conversion was done w/metal and not fiberglass but they cut a lot of corners which i think is good for me in certain ways (original decklid still there, hood latch was never converted, interior still all original)

Car starts every time, shifts nice and clutch seems to grab very well, brakes were also upgraded and re-done 12 months ago. Car is a matching #'s car so i'll most likely be keeping the engine in the car

But now to some of the things i found that worry me, and hopefully someone here with more experience can shed some light on what i'm looking at

I've found some rust spots and holes (and more importantly rotting) which was expected, i'm just not sure how serious they are

here are some pictures of the spots i found that seemed the most concerning

are these beyond repair from a good welder?

is it repairable well yes and your right it will not be cheap .
some one was there once as you can see the old welds from were it was patched .
to do a repair were there was one done before is point less so that means you looking at pulling all the rear suspension getting new panels then fabricating others and doing it right this time .
in the end you will have a car that is worth some thing if you want to sell it so day and it will be safe to drive .
if your going to take on the job your self there are many great people here that are going thru and have gone thru the hell road your headed down .
it's not really hell in fact it can be kind of fun when your all finished you step back and say i did it my self and it come out good .

I'm discovering that the previous owner was VERY lazy when it came to converting it, as mentioned above the rear decklid is still original , but looks like the hood isn't even an SC hood, he cut the long hood and folded it at the bottom and re-used the original latch!

and now i'm thinking even the front fenders are still the original ones that were modified

back to the garage!!
