Hi all; fresh user here of a 1980 911 Targa, and was wondering if you could give me some advices.
My car is obviously used, and the old owners did any kind of abuse of it....it has rust spots here and there; some dents, the paint has been redone on top of the old paint...probably twice. I can't tell how old are the seals; but some are broken (like the squeegee on both doors), plus there is a bit of a gap between the targa top and the left door...tried to fix it without success (the seals on the targa top are new, since I had it restored). I am not going for restoration or concourse I love my car and I want it rust free and nicely painted, with nice seals that does not let the water to go in when it rain or when I wash it!Could you suggest any shop that is in fact honest and does a good job without ripping you an arm and a leg? I am in the south bay area. I've heard of Cecil in San Jose, but from what I heard, he goes for the top tier work, while I want a normal job. Maaco was a solution until I saw how much they charge for a complete job...if I go for a 1500 bill, I prefer to have it done better and pay a bit more (horror stories everywhere about their crappy work....and if I need to do the prep work by myself, I would end up painting it too probably ).I know that many strive for the best, going for the exact match for paint and trims; and also charge premium prices for that kind of service, but this is not what I am looking for...I want a job well done, for a car that is a daily driver, which does not go to any concourse (alto I am PCA member). Any suggestion would be more than welcome...I don't want to end up feeding the wrong person my hard earned cash (and mostly, someone that does not deserve it). Thanks! |
