Any tips/links on replacing hood?
I have a new(er) front hood to install on my '79 911, but I'm worried it's not as straight-forward as it looks. Anyone have tips on swapping hoods? I searched, but didn't find anything in this section...

replacing a hood is as straight forward as it looks .
4 allen haed bolts and washers between the hing and the hood were the back hood bolts are they are for ajusting the hood hight to the fenders and cowl . the hardest part is the gasket under the hood badge (porsche crest ) . there are tricks to make that a ez job to fit right . |
I'm concerned about "pre-aligning" the new hood so it lines up fairly close the first time, and not whacking the windshield cowl with the pointed trailing corners. :(

put a piece of cardboard on the cowl and window area were you may think your going to hit .
i replace porsche hoods most times me self . when you buy a new panel they come with foam blocks on the corners of the panels i save them and slip them on the points of the back edge of the porsche hoods rest the hood on the cowl and then aline the hing bolts and install . if you think your going to damage some thing get a friend to help . when you install the new hood put the new hood bolts right back on the marks from the bolts of the old hood . then just watch to be sure you don't have the hood hiting the cowl or fenders as you close it slow and ez for the 1st time . then you do your fine ajusting from there to get the gaps right . |
