Front Fender Similarity?- Early 911 vs. Later Models
 

How similar are the front fenders at the trailing edge- back of the wheel opening where fender joins the door/rocker panel- between the early 911s and later models? I tried this question on the Tech forum, but didn't get any responses.

I've got to replace/rebuild the lower, rear part of both sides on my '69.

I'm about to go shopping for donor fender parts, but wanted to get an idea of what year range I could use that would match the early fender.

A part from being galvanised, the LWB pressings are the same in the rear section on your '69 - so you can certainly use a G series fender for the repair. A lot of people use all of the later fender (as it is often rust free) and graft the light box/front section on from the earlier fender...

The earlier SWB front guards differ in that they don't have a flare, the headlight bucket and the signal box are different.

just get these patch panels.

Porsche 911/912

On my 69 I did as suggested above. I welded the light box (plus 1/4") onto the bottom of later fender. Worked fine. In my case however I also had rotten headlight buckets, rust all the way up the back of the fender and prior accident damage. If the rest of your fender is good you would be far better off to use a patch panel.

I had thought I'd try those Alfa guys, but I never could get a hold of them. I did some more searching and sent a message to one of the other Pelicanites who'd bought, or tried to buy, one of their patch panels. His advice was to stay away from them.

So, I picked up a couple of later model fenders with some imperfections at DC Automotive, and am now working to graft 4 fenders into 2. Right now I'm working a repair to the turn signal boxes that I've got fix whether they stay on the original fenders or move to the new ones. Still haven't decided which pieces I'll use from which fenders.
