Remove undercoat...or not?
Got the 1978 SC almost ready to get media blasted. I am just in doubt if I should take the effort removing the rubber undercoat. It is still in relative good shape and I will never be able to reproduce a good protective layer as the original undercoat.
However, I like the idea of starting with a clean tub. At the end it will be a street and occasional DE/Track car. Maybe more tracing in the far future. What was your guys motivation of removing the undercoating? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1386539767.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1386539787.jpg |
I would not remove the undercoat on this car it look to good .I do remove Undercoat 65-77 because most time i find rust and have to do welding .

If the chip/stone gaurd is still good leave it alone. On the other hand, are you paying by the sqft? Maybe just do what needs to be removed if any.. have them feather the edges and reaply new chip/stone guard. Check out past threads there is much info.;)

i did a full media blast on my '75, when it came to the undercoat section, I asked the plastic blaster to just do a once over lightly on it unless it came off easily or if there appeared to be a problem.
They complied, there were one or two spots they blasted off, but for the most part it left a very nice, somewhat fuzzy surface that I put the Sikkens OTO chipguard on top of. That was close to 20 years ago....and it is still fine, no issues anywhere.... Dennis |
