dead paint on 944

I've tried using rubbing and polishing compound with little effect..nice and smooth but no shine unless it rains..dull when it dries out. Other than a paint job..any suggestions? Thank! Mike

if you have tried to machine compound the car and your still not getting a shine even for a short time then the finish is done !
you did not state color ? base clear or solid color ?

if it's a solid red color there is no clear coat so it should buff up with compound and a buffing wheel . you have to take care not to buff thru the single stage finish .
if it's a repaint then most people will do them in base clear coat . that is a hole other matter !
if the color under the clear is dead then you can buff it until the cows come home and you will not get a shine out of it .
Porsche or I should say VW audi did not use a clear on there reds in the production run of the 944 models so if there is a clear coat it's a repaint .
it is not uncommon to find people that have red cars with the finish starting to fail to clear coat them .
that happens then is the color under the clear will just keep failing .
