fan shroud removal - in car 912

Just going over the engine for leaks and adjustments and I could not remove the shroud to replace the oil cooler seals. Is it possible to remove the shroud with the engine in car or does the motor have to be dropped?

One could probably lower the engine by unbolting the rear motor mounts and lowering the engine to remove the shroud / Dog-House, but it is so easy and more efficient to remove the engine. I have complete engine removal details posted by another if you need them. They work very well for me.If you need them e-mail me.

excellent, thanks.

BTW, if I remove the motor, is it a drop in replacement to use a VW type 4 in the meantime while im working on the porsche engine?

No, I've never done it but I understand installing a type 4 is a little involved. This fellow has it figured out though, http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/
