1968 912 jug hone?

I just honed my factory jugs to clean them up and changed the rings because 1 ring was cracked (that explained the low compression on 1 side. Now: did I damage the jug as it seems from reading on the net that these are all alum jugs?

What you have is a alum finned sleeve bonded/pressed over a steel liner. I did the same thing to mine and just haven't run it yet,but with fresh rings you are correct in honing other wise the rings would never seat.

Cheers,Steve

thanks for the info, my info search was into very grey areas as performance parts listed my replacement jugs as all aluminum but a search on the net came up with porsche using nikasil treatment from 1970 and up. Anyway its great that I didnt do damage as there are other areas that need attention.
