clutch problems or trans ?
hello,my 1962 356 was shifting fine, then one day it started to grind when trying to put in gear.i thought it might be the clutch.so i changed,flywheel-throw out bearing-pres.plate-clutch disc-cable &hardware-fork & bushings-gland nut,yes just about everything, and went from 180mm to 200mm.the problem is it still wants to grind and will not go in gear.i have changed clutches many times before but just can't figure this out.the only thing left is the trans.i don't want to go to that exspence unless i am sure that it is bad.with the car not running it shifts as if all is fine.does anybody have an idea or how to see if it is trans or clutch problem?thank you

Assuming clutch release is set proper...
Got oil in your trans case? Passenger side, about half way up it. Jack car up if needed but keep it level, undo the stopper, and you should feel oil just inside of it. No liquid oil, add some. 90 wt. hypoid gear oil. Stinks to high heaven, get the gallon kit with the pump so you don't have to figure out how to possibly pour it in there. |
thanks for the reply.yes it is full of oil.
