64 Porsche 356C wheels/tires?

Hello,

This is my first post.

I'm currently trying to figure out what size tires to put on my new chrome 5.5" wheels? I currently have 165/80/15 on 4.5" wheels.

I would appreciate any input anyone can provide.... tire size for a 5.5", tire brands, etc.

I would like something a bit more performance oriented... the car will be mainly used for Sunday drives and car shows.

Thanks,

dogbark

If you want to keep the same rolling circumference as your stock tire and keep the vintage look using the 5.5" wheels, then you should get the Vredestein Sprint Classic or the expensive Michellin XWX in the size 185/70-15.

You could also run the slightly wider 195/65-15. There are lots of modern tires in that size, go to Tirerack.com to check out the different models.

I agree with Perry. I run the Vred's and think they are great. Jim

Ok, thanks.. I think I want to put 195/60/15 tires on the 5.5" wheels. Will this be ok without rubbing? Also, any suggestions on tires to get in that size, or is Tirerack just the best place to compare the tires?

Thanks!

I had that 195 size on my '64 SC Cab a few years ago. Truthfully, they fit but at lock to lock turning they will rub a bit. It is alot more fun on the smaller 165 tires as you feel faster than you are going whereas on the 195's you are stressing the 40 yr old suspension by hauling faster.

I have the Vredestein's on my 63B and love them. They are 185x70x15. Great tire, good looking, good handling and rather quiet. I also like the way they fill the wheel well. They have almost the same diameter and height of the original 165 tires.

Giev em a whirl. You will love them

John
