356 B crankshaft

I have a B Cabriolet that needs to have the crank refinished......which just might result in 3rd oversize bearings when finished.

My question is......... is 3rd oversize detrimental or bearing availability a problem OR can I have the crank refinished ( expertly welded up ) and refinished to Std size? The crank is otherwise in excellent condition ( no cracks ). Scat makes a new crank but not sure how much. Stoddard sells a new one for $1,200. What would you do? Thanks for any insight. Jeff

Jeff,

You can go 3rd under on the mains for a street motor. I believe NLA has the bearings in stock...check first! I would not go to the expense of having a B crank built up and re-chromed.

Best,
Nick
