Fuel Line Question 63' 356B

I was helping a friend out with his 356B "S" he rescued from storage at his father in laws farm. It was in storage for around 10 years or so.

He had a starting problem which turned out to be a defective 6V electric pump someone had installed. We decided to keep things simple and removed the pump. The car cranks and idles much better now.

After getting it back running it developed a fuel lead somewhere in the area of the fuelcock. I can see dampness around the hoses which we will tend to. But I also wondered about where the steel fuel line passes through the bulkhead. When I was reconnecting the fuel line to this steel line, the steel line felt as thought it was moving around too much. Almost like it had some sort of compression fitting behind the bulkhead that was loose.

Is this line a solid piece all the way to the engine compartment? If not it would be the first car I've seen that wasn't, unless there was a filter or something in between.

Also, the car smokes at idle and seems to be running rich. I figured that was expected from a 50 year old air cooled engine. Am I right about that?

Thanks,
DB

Never mind. I figured it out. There is a small piece of rubber hose in there that has obviously come apart. I'll have to figure out how to get to it.

I got the answer from 356registry.org.
