Nardi Wheel Removal

I'm posting this topic in the 356 section because I know the older Nardi wheels are popular with this group of enthusiasts.

My friend is trying to remove this older Nardi wheel from his 914 to replace it with a factory wheel (guess who's getting it

I advised him to carefully pry up the horn button then remove the 22mm? large bolt and horn wire and pull the wheel and hub off. But he didn't see the nut after removing the horn button, he saw this (?)

If anyone can give us some guidance on what to do from this point to remove the wheel and hub it would be greatly appreciated.

Your fellow Porsche enthusiasts,

Chris and Greg

It looks like there is still a portion of the horn left in the wheel...Either way, just remove the outer alumium trim ring that you see that is currently covering the screws that hold the steering wheel to the hub. Once you get the steering wheel off the hub, maybe that piece of metal (which again appears to be part of the horn) will easily come off as well exposing the 22mm (or is it 24mm?) nut that holds the hub on. Just my 2 cents...

Forgot to add...The outer Nardi trim ring is just held in place by rubber inserts in holes that create a press fit over the heads of the screws...Therefore, simply pry carefully with something thin to remove the trim ring....Lastly, it does appear the piece of metal shown in the pic is indeed part of the horn button. If you pryed on the black plastic ring shown, it should come out as well exposing the main nut holding the hub. Looks like when he pryed on the horn button, he only removed the decorative center...hope this helps.

Craig - I see what you're saying (the steel inner ring should be carefully pried up).

If he exposes the large nut and unscrews it, this will remove both the wheel and the hub, correct? If he does this I'll advise him not to mess with the outer aluminum ring as we really don't want to seperate wheel/hub.

Thank you,

Chris

Yep, if you want to leave the wheel and hub together, just pry on the black plastic leftover from the horn button...It should come right out and if the horn was hooked up, there will be a wire attached to the rear. He should also then be able to see the nut holding the hub on to the shaft.

What I am calling black plastic might be metal...Hard to tell from the pic, but I think you get the idea....
