![]() ![]() Car ran great with new fourth gear. 3400 at an honest 70. Averaged 32mpg with a high of 35 and low of 27 in city driving. This was just a real shakedown cruise to see if the car and I are up for a 4,000 mile trip. It is really a leap of faith but everything that moves has been replaced. Didn't have a jack or spare but will probably add those for the big trip.

Rennsport. Oct 14-16 in Monteray. Hope to swing through Colorado and meet up with the early 911 crew in Durango. Should have the car painted by then.

Les,
That's sounds like a great trip! I should be headed north from LA in May in my 1962 Notch...the route I want will take me north to Seattle and then across. My email is seahawkermr@aol.com I'd like to pick your brain on tools, spares and the like. Jack is running well...

What a cool trip!
Sounds a bit like what we did, 600+ mile road trip with only 5 shakedown miles (and a decent cam break-in) on a brand new motor build. Did the majority of the fuel mapping for the EFI in the first hour.

I did a 120 mile trip before the 1500 mile trip. Only to learn the pertronix electronic ignition that had just replaced the points were bad. Bad idle, previous 750 smooth strong push from 2500-5000. With the pertronix it was 1500 and missing and sluggish through the rev range.
The night before I left for the trip went back to points. Smooth idle strong through the revs. Car ran great initial 520 miles from my house to my sons apt in Austin. Car sat for a day next morning missing like plugged idle jets. That happened several time over the course of the trip. Always cleared up after stop and go traffic then open spaces. Today going back in with another pertronix. I had it in my old Cal Look bug and it was bulletproof. I don't want to worry about points on my next trip which will be numerous 500 mile per day legs. Replacing the steering damper which was actually hard to get at a resonable price and rebuilding a slow leak on the rear wheel brake cylinder. My pedal went well past half way several times which is shaky at 70 in city interstate type stop and go traffic. Ordered a new hood pin spring from our host too. Hard to release the hood without assistance. In my opinion the Maestro built great engines and he had this one 2 times perfecting it.
