356 final drive ratio option

I am looking to find out whether a higher final drive ratio (lower number than 4.375:1 is available for 1963 356 Cabriolet. The object is to reduce rpm for long distance highway cruising. About 10% would be perfect

Thanks

Peter

Try Jacques at Scott's Porsche. I think he has started making an 8:31 ring and pinion set. Otherwise the tradition solution is what we call a TG 4th, which you can get from either Tom Conway at Carquip or Vic Skirmants at 356 Enterprises.

The single biggest improvement I made in the 20 years I've owned the 356 is the Skirmants tallest 4th.

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.

That last one matches up to the top pic with the gps s. This was on the ET highway keeping up with some Banzai early 911's a couple of 997's and a new Turbo.

I don't have one, but a google search will give you his phone number.

Thanks Les
I have already made contact with 356 Enterprises, who do the alternative 3 rd and 4th gears. Scotts was suggested as doing a higher ratio final drive, still looking for a web link or email address

Thanks

Peter

i checked this a few years ago with a 356 transmission guy - i believe he told me the 8:31 simply wouldn't fit in the 356 tranny case, and that's why it was never an option - hope this helps - brad in seattle
