Todays Ebay gamble
http://www.photobucket.com/356engine Temporary solution while I rebuild my original 64C engine. I may eventually do a 1883 out of this and keep the original motor stock. I won the auction at 2550 (buy it now was 2950) - what do you think, was this a crazy purchase? Knowing what even a decent core is going for, it seemed reasonable enough. I did speak with the seller and am comfortable with his reputation/judgment. I will drive down to Boston and pick it up in person this week.

Not bad sounding. Is it a 64 or 65?

Hi,
It's a 65 912 engine w/40IDF's. It was rebuilt a while back, but details are sketchy. It has logged quite a few miles since the rebuild which brings some comfort, but time will tell. Oil psi at idle around 35 psi - 50 psi when revved up. Seems to run smooth and sound healthy, but listening over a video not exactly real science. The guy I am buying it from is knowledgeable, and has some nice cars. He's just getting rid of some stuff he is not using. I'll know more when i go down to Boston, he is involved with 356NE.org and invited me to a tech seminar in March. Hopefully I can get some more history on it. Rolling the dice on this, but at the very least i have a good core and some webers. I may build this motor 1883 and plan on leaving my original motor bone stock. I'll need to change this motor to 6V though. No involvement with Motor Meister that I am aware. BTW Les, I read your travel blog, sounds like a blast - very inspirational!

I had planned to go to the Sebring race coming up in March but my wife couldn't get off for the return trip so we're weighing options for where we are going on the next big trip. My wife doesn't want to miss the next one.
One thing I would do if I were you is put a full flow oil system on the engine you plan to use long term. Good insurance for the price it costs to do it.
