911 SC Weissach Edition Build/Vin Numbers
Ok then... as I understand it there were 408 of these cars made and imported into the US (I've seen other quantities noted as well). The vin range was between 91AO140001-91AO144272. If one does that math - that has a possibility of over 4270 cars.
What am I missing? Can I assume that Porsche did not number the cars sequentially? How did they do it? Where other no Weissach cars in the same range? If one has a vin - how can one tell where in the build of 408 cars did the car sit - was it the first made, the 100th made, the 400th or the last? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. |

Well unless you (or someone) have a 1980 M439 optioned car with serial "0001"or "4272" which would be the first and last one of the 408 made... who knows.
If there was a data base that has all 408 listed it could shows which one is which. I check Simon's Porsche 911 SC Site Registry Simon's Porsche 911 SC Site and only 34 are listed as such with the first one at "91A0143269" and the last one at "91A0144113". That is less then 10%. I'm sure somewhere Porsche has the listing. Good Luck

Thanks -
On the Survivors - Porsche 911SC Special Weissach Edition site there are 76 survivors listed from 91A0142534 to 91A0144113 a range of over 1575 numbers. It would be great if someone had, as you mentioned, a database of all 408. Wayne |

There are several Registries of old models or special models - the 356 of course, 912, early 911s, the M491 cars, etc. If there is interest, you may be able to start building a community (and a database of surviving cars) ....

I watched a video of how Porsche prepared the cars on assembly. My interest was in the paint process. In the video, the narrator mentions that the car is not ready for delivery until it get's it's character. Therefore, I'd expect that chassis serial numbers AND engine numbers have nothing to do with the number in a series. The engine, I can tell you, is nothing specific to a Weissach and until the color choices are made and car sprayed, fitted with red piping and other "Weissach" options, the chassis is the same as any other SC.
That's my view only folks I have a Black Metallic Weissach and will contribute to the cause by getting the serial number and other info to the various sites. Tony |
