Tire for concurs setup?
I picked up a tire/rim as can be seen in the attached photo. I really just wanted the rim. In looking at this, the tire is new and still has the little tits and seam from the mold, and appears to be original Michelin spare perhaps from an early 356 or 912 and is a German tire . If someone needed the tire for their restoration, this might be a good find for someone and I might be willing to part with it for $90 plus shipping and dismount fee.
If no interest, I plan to just use it to put on my car during restoration so I do not damage my Fuchs. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1332468863.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1332468886.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1332468896.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1332468906.jpg |
By the 185R-15" tire, I would guess that this is from an early 911T. If you look at the hub area of the will, there will be a production date stamp with the month over the year, usually in a circle. This info would really help. Also, the maker of the wheel- KronPrinz, Lemmerz or Sudrad
|
+1 on early 911.
Judging by the round stamp I'll bet the rim is a KPZ. I don't believe Südrad made steelies that late. Good luck getting a 40+ year old tire dismounted. Usually the rubber is so dry it falls apart. |
Yep, the wheel says KPZ and is dated 5/66 and is a 4.5 x 15" rim Does that mean it is a 911/912 rim?
|
yup. The rim would also fit a 356C disc brake car as well, but it would be date correct for a '66 911 or 912.
I would personally not use that tire for anything but display use. It is not safe for road use after all those years. It was probably manufactured before the introduction of DOT date codes. I highly doubt you will get it off the rim unscaved. |
I also would not want to drive on it. I only put it on here as I was thinking some folks might want it as an authentic spare for in their trunk area for shows, but maybe not??
I will just go ahead and use it then for rolling my car around on during restoration than if there is no interest |
catch 22.... you can try to sell the tire, but you will likely damage it (render it useless) when it comes off, so the buyer is left with nothing. Or you can try to take the tire off before selling, risking damaging the tire and then you have to find something else to use as a roller....
You COULD always try to offer the whole thing. |
