996/997 engine to G50 gearbox?
Hello,
I have a G50 short-nose (01) gearbox in my car. Which later model 911 engine would still fit this transmission? Some modification no problem, just let me know whats needed if anyone has that experience. thanks in advance, Walter |
Only GT3 and turbo. Those are the Mezger engines with the proper bolt pattern. The plain Jane Carrera m96&97 engines are totally different.

Thanks Matt!

What’s your plan for radiators?

I assumeyou are familiar with Pete’s car?

Its for the notchback on the left. As you can see, there is ample room there for a front mounted radiator of good quality. BTW, its also a '69 like Pete's car and originally 4-cyl aircooled, so there is _some_ resemblence haha! https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1809/...65cb36a8_h.jpg Now just to find a GT3 engine of some kind... |
Love it. I've always been a fan of both the oddball notchbacks, Porsche's and VW's.

Aircon and power steering parts I don't need for my intentions however ;) BTW, its a 997.2 3,8 GT3 engine core. Will convert to ITB's and stand-alone ecu. Its going in this, so maybe this thread needs to be moved? https://live.staticflickr.com/7834/3...49806dfb_b.jpg |
Wow cool project!
If your story does get moved to the engine conversion forum here please do keep updating it. I guess you will have to sacrifice the rear boot space, be cool to lift the lid and see a GT3 motor living there. I think any alternator from around that time should fit, boxster, cayman, 911 were all mounted the same. you would need to confirm with part numbers though. |

I'll just need the belt to drive the waterpump and alternator, so will have to come up with a much shorter length ribbed belt as well. I'll probably also want to ask questions about the disassembling of the engine as some stud repairs (case welding) have to be done. Maybe engine rebuilding forum would be better? |
