Is that what you used?

I had this same problem on my '85 and took me a while to figure it out. I replaced my rusty old light with a new one and wound up blowing the fuse when I turned the lights on. There was a short from the 12V wire to ground that I could measure with a meter. It went away after I pulled the light and let it hang in the air. After trying all sorts of tape and shielding, I finally tried rotating it 180 degrees and that cured the problem. Evidently these can only be installed one way due to the way the ground return is wired up. Hope that helps.

Swapping wires did the trick. Thx so much!

Look for 41mm feston at this link from Engelbert at Carmagic

They can also be ordered individual from the LED bulb page https://carmagic.us/led-bulbs.html

Hi Gerry- Found it! It's the Philips 128026000KB1 43mm festoon Bright White Interior Vision LED light. It has a cover over the bulb- works great.

I have 4 festoon LED lights not being used. They are a super bright white light, ideal for the engine compartment or if you want daylight inside your cabin. I put one in my 914 backpad light and it more than does it job. If anyone wants one for free, PM me with address and I’ll Mail you one. U.S.only.

. This is a fine piece of German engineering. Really is more at home in my 66 VW than the Targa. Still no joy by the way.

The same light resided in my 1974 VW Thing's glove box.

Reviving and old thread since its the best for this questions.

Does anyone know the part number or size/description for the screws and mounting clips to attach the light fixture?

I looked on the PET but could not find them.

thanks

Just eyeballing, they look like M5. Go to Ace Hardware or similar and buy a couple of appropriate length in stainless steel and see if they thread in. If not, try the next size down, M4. In fact, they will let you take one out to your car and see if it fits., then buy several extras. License plate lights are the same size, IIRC.

And thanks for reminding me. I have a 1973, which did not come with these lights, but I want to buy two LED12v lights and screw them in on each side of the lid. Better illumination that way. I'll just wire to the license plate circuit (also on the deck lid in 1973)

Been going after my engine compqrtment light as well, and thought it is a nice idea to put the insulator there. But then, after a second thought, light housing will still be connected to body through the mounting scews, so there little point to it.

Or am I getting something wrong?
