1980 911 power door locks not working

All my fuses look good, but the switch on the inside drivers door is dead. The door release handle on the passenger door won't unlock the door either. Are they related? I have to use the key from outside.

I was told 1980 didn't come with power door locks. Where to start?

I am not sure about a 1980 SC, but on my 85 Carrera, the factory power door lock are 100% connected. If both doors are not closed completely the doors will not lock. I just hear the solenoid click and click again to be back to unlocked. Are your door locks factory or aftermarket? If you don't know the history of the car and know for sure it ever had power locks, you will have a challenge to figure out what you have.

Many of the 911s of the era were taken to stereo shops and had real butchers splice in crazy stereos, car alarms, and door openers.

So first question, why do you think you even have power locks? It was not installed on all 911s for several years. I think even in 1985 it was still an option.

Removing a door panel is not super hard. Pop off one side and look at the lock area. Does it have electrical wire going to it?

Power door locks were not available on a 911 until 1984, so chances are its one of those "Rub Goldberg" aftermarket kits. 1) good luck finding components if necessary 2) usually it's just a linkage that's come loose, so definitely worth investigating.

There is no sound when pushing the lock or unlock. Probably a bad switch so I guess it’s time to chase the rabbit down the rabbit hole. Hopefully the model is still made.

My 1980 SC did not have power door locks when I bought the car in 1991. In 2002 I incorporated power door locks with a wireless control module and key fob to the factory alarm system. This eliminated the use of the alarm key in drivers door. Just recently the door locks have been acting up they intermittently do not unlock from key fob and require the use of the key in the door. I believe it is the wireless control module that is the problem and not the actual solenoid in the door. Unfortunately the module is buried in the frunk right next to the factory alarm module. Will need to pull vent fan and hoses to get to it.
