help with no headlights

hey pelicans. i’m stuck trying to figure out why i don’t have any power going to my headlights. i thought it might have to do with the turn signal stalk but that checked out ok.

when dug into the steering column i found a brown w/white stripe disconnected on the turn signal side and a brown lead with what appears to have a bulb connector, a standard connector and a ground-like end on the wiper side.

can anyone help identify where these plug into? i can get my high beams to flash but not stay on if i have the stalk pushed forward.

this is for a 1971 911T. any help is appreciated!

Brown/White is the horn.
Browns on wiper wire are all grounds.
Not sure which bulb that is. Ashtray maybe?

For the lights, is your light switch 6 pin plug fully seated at the female plug that goes through the sheet metal?
Is it in the right 6 pin plug?
Is the headlight hi/low relay installed?
Flasher relay and switch all good?
Power reaching the white and yellow wires at the turn switch?

Flasher relay and hi/low relay are behind the fuel gauge. Access from the trunk.
Read the common problems with signal switches. (May not apply to your year though)

yeah saw that post. it’s different for early cars but i did check to see if contact is good and it looks ok. i’ll check the relays tomorrow after work. hoping it’s an easy or straightforward fix or else i’ll be diving in to wiring hell!

ok so i got a chance to triple check the stalk and mine seems to be ok. the contact points appear to be good, not corroded or making contact when not suppose to.

here is what i get:
1) high beam flashes (by pulling back on stalk) when headlight switch is pulled to on position (all the way out)
2) high beam flashes (by pulling back on stalk) when headlight switch is left in default position (all the way in)
3) high beam does not flash (by pulling back on stalk) when the headlight switch is in the parking light position (switch in middle position)
4) no head lights

i just got my jwest relay and will install this weekend but does anyone know what else i can test based on this new info?

Sounds like the stalk switch to me. You have to look at the three leaves from the side to see how the switch works. The center leaf is brought into contact with either the forward leaf or the back leaf depending on the position of the high/low stalk position. I fold a small square of paper and try different (multiple) thicknesses until I get the leaves to have the proper spacing between then. The front and back leaves move forward and back as a unit, contact being made with the center, independent, leaf, to complete the headlight circuit.
