Looking for help with 1976 Carrera 3

Hi, looking for help with Carrera 3

I have a Carrera 3 1976 and the original injection was exchanged for Webers carburetors.
I would like to return it to original condition, back to injection.
I would like to ask for info, especially photos of original injection for 76 3.0 (carrera 3).

Also, was the injection same components as on 1976 with 2.7l engine ?
And anyone has correct number for WUR, duel disby and other components.
(I have a intake and injection complete parts from 1978 but not sure if it was same as 76 3.0 l)

my current engine photo:

Hi Hotaru,

Congratulations on your purchase, a Carrera 3.0 is somewhat rare...

A good place to start with the K-Jetronic parts would be from the Porsche PET itself.. A page from the 1977 911 PET (which also includes the Carrera 3.0) for K-Jet is attached below...

I am sure that you have the PET, but if not you can find and download from here:

Most parts are closer to the SC injection than the 2.7.

yes as above, an SC injection CIS (say 78) would be fairly close, closer than the 2.7 CIS, find a complete injection system from a 78 or 79 and start with that. If its not complete it will be alot harder to figure out, due to the all the gizmos (TTV, AAR, AAD, AAV, WUR, Decel, etc) and the vaccum hose routings, etc

You might want to ditch the 5 blade fan while you are at it.

This pic from a '76 UK 3.0 appears to be as original as it gets.

FYI - IF you want to keep the 5-Blade Fan, then you should have the biggest Front Oil Cooler you can get.

No matter where you drive, this will be needed to protect the motor.

Too bad you are in Japan as I have a '78 CIS unit collecting dust.

Thanks for replies.
I do have a 78 CIS unit I got while ago, also I have a 81 unit (81 unit requires computer/control unit).
Looking at the answers - my 78 unit should be pretty close match to what 76 would use on Carrera 3 - is this correct?

Another thing need to change to original is:
suspension - currently has coil overs
brakes - currently has turbo calipers /disk

After I it should be almost true Carrera 3

If anyone has more detail photos of the CIS, please post it

Thanks,
Stan

Tony,

Thanks for your help

CIS components...........

Stan,

The CIS components you posted were from a ‘78 SC USA/CAN spec motor. These should work perfectly with the C3 3.0 liter engines. Is the WUR in the picture a -045 or a -069? Can not see the part number on it. Keep us posted. Thanks.

Thank Tony for info.
Few more questions:
- i checked parts catalogue for 76 Carrera 3.0 and it shows that fuel distributor should be 930 110 802 00 and air flow meter 930 110 801 00. Do you know the Bosch numbers for these - it looks like it is a number from turbo ... (i think that fuel dist is 0 438 100 010, but dont have bosch part for flow meter )
Are these compatible with 78 SC?
Does flow meter and fuel distributor need to be matched?
my engine type is 930/2
Thanks,
Stan

Hi Tony,
After searching I was able to find Bosch book with all the specs for different cars/models. It shows different components for 1978 SC 3.0l and for 1976/77 C3.0
Not sure how different they are and if it will work.
here is a page for Porsche:

Thanks,
Stan

Restoring your CIS........

Stan,

Unless you are doing a concourse restoration for your engine installing the OEM parts is highly recommended. Knowing these CIS components, the later SC parts are better and more reliable than those older ones. For example, the FD-010 is not adjustable while the FD-031 found in ‘78-‘79 SC’s are adjustable and you could calibrate the ports for higher outputs. Another example is the WUR-033. The later WUR-045/-069/-089 are more reliable and consistent than those of -017/-033.

However, if you are selling the engine putting the original parts would attract higher selling price because most prospective buyers don’t know or understand how the CIS works. They just like to have the parts numbers found in the catalogs. Can not blame them.

Tony

Tony,
Thanks for answers.
FD-031 should work without any additional adjustments with Carrera 3.0 engine, correct?
Also, I looked at the schematic for 78 and there are couple items that I am not sure what is it:
N21 - supplementary air valve - is this Auxiliary Air Regulator ?
N43 - thermo valve - I can find in parts list item 26/1, Thermo valve 91160610601 ?
Thanks
Stan

Anybody knows part number for the Fuel Distributor fittings that work with hard lines?
Currently it uses flex lines and banjo bolt but I would like to change it to hard lines - but no fitting to mount them on FD.
Thanks,
Stan

Hey hotaru,

If you are able to, obtain the correct parts for your engine as the Carrera 3 is a rare beast and drives very differently from the 79 SC I owned before I bought the C3!

They just have a different character that would have been missing with the webers and would you would miss with SC parts too! I had my engine out for a re seal in 2013 and will post a few pics of my standard engine!

If you want any specific pics let me know and I will take them for you.

Cheers

Bill
