901 howling in 1st gear

I just bought a 69 with a 901, in first gear once I start moving it howls loudly under acceleration and even worse when I’m coasting, it gets steadily quieter as I shift up through the gears. I’m not too familiar with the 901; is this the bearing closest to 1st that needs to be replaced? If so, i’ve looked but can’t find a rebuild guide for a 901,is it the same to rebuild as the 915?

Thanks,
Milan

901 Bearing

Most probably the mainshaft ball bearing in the intermediate plate. Not too hard to replace and you don't need to reset pinion depth if you measure the gasket thickness between the intermediate plate and main housing.
The 901 is a different construction than the 915. Must be some rebuild info on the internet.
