Yet another Conti radio install...Thanks!

Spent a lot of time perusing threads on here and decided to install the Continental TR-7412UB-OR radio. Got a lot of great tips from those threads that saved some time and headaches, so Thank You!

For my install, I wanted to leave the stock connectors under the dash, so I purchased a short ISO harness. It adds some mess and extra connections, but I didn’t have to cut any of the stock terminals off in case a future owner wanted to go back to the OEM Montery SQR23. I also purchased the speaker plug harness to which I soldered a piece of 9/18 audio cable for the speakers. I wanted to get rid of the stock fader for a couple of reasons…I don’t think its needed and it also relies on bonding the speaker ground wires, which the Continental manual recommends against.

My console switch plate was pretty knackered, so I cut out a very thin plate with a new “D” hole for the Fan switch and also a space for a rocker switch where the fader control previously resided. This killed two birds with one stone…fixed the rotating fan switch and gave a discrete switch location for the power antenna. I really only want it to go up when I’m using FM, which is rarely.

For speakers, I took the excellent recommendations found on here and used the Pioneer TS-D1302R Fronts and TS-A4670F Rears. This was really straightforward although the rear deck speakers were solidly stuck to the vinyl backboard and took quite a bit of coaxing to come away.

The sound is better than expected, and more than enough for road trip listening. Love the look of the unit in the dash, as many have noted it’s blends in fairly well. Oh, I also added a low profile USB jack in the console, and may re-make the cover plate to incorporate this for a slightly neater look.

So thanks again for all the great info and resources, it helped everything go very smoothly!

Clean install. Looks good.
Did you use a label maker for the Porsche emblem or?

Ordered it with the headunit… https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php/products/car-audio.html

Fwiw, I may ultimately end up purchasing the updated Blaupunkt unit assuming it ever makes it to the US, but for now this will work well enough...

Looks good - can you show us your rear speaker install - did you reuse the factory covers? Been perusing all the rear speaker threads.

Didn't take a pic of the rear speakers except the one you see in the first post comparing old to new. As you can see in the pic, my grilles were in great shape, so no issues there. Popped the spacer and adapter ring of the new ones and they fit right under the grilles.

Did this "spacer and adapter ring" come with the speakers - or did you have to purchase separately?

Are you digging the unit? I like mine with the focals, amp, and under seat sub. My car is loud so I added the mic to the back of the unit and discreetly ran it up to the puffy sunvisor. Works great.

I want to hear opinions about the new Blau once it comes out. Any sound improvement is welcome in my book.

I have the same head unit and it is really good. Looking into speakers now. Anyone know if the ones outlined by OP will fit an '88 Targa?

Which cable harness did you buy and where did you get it? I have Conti radio and original radio installed and didn’t want to cut the connectors to install the Conti? This sounds like the perfect solution

You can buy the harness from bergvillefx as well. No need to splice or butcher the original harness. Perfect fit retaining all original connectors.

Now all you need to do is add this handsfree Bluetooth module for music streaming and hands free calling. iSimple iSFM2351 Bluetooth Hands-Free and Audio Streaming for all FM Radios :: Bluetooth. I have one and it works great. No association but a happy user.

Yes, it has built-in Bluetooth which was the primary feature I wanted. (besides fixing the broken stuff of course.) Also USB, phone for those that want that.

For some reason it seems stuck on old 80s music when the missus and I take it out for an evening cruise...who says you can’t go back?

I love the design of this product line and your installation, incl your A/C panel, is super-sanitary. My only wish is that Conti would include a subwoofer output. John.
