Seeking Santa Cruz-area 911 folks

I bought my first air-cooled 911 a couple of months ago--an '87 Carrera--and I love it. I'm trying to figure a few things out about shifting technique, etc., and I'd really like to connect with other Santa Cruz-area classic 911 drivers. If anyone local would be up for getting together sometime, shoot me a PM.
Thanks!

Dan

If you join PCA you’ll probably be assigned to Loma Prieta. GGR is huge and it skews water cooled although there are a few die hards. I would still sign up for GGR in addition to Loma Prieta. Drive up to Alice’s on a nice Sunday morning. Tons of air cooled cars up there. Take 1 north turn at San Gregorio drive fast up the hill. Stop at the top when you see all of Porsches parked. Go home Skyline to 9 to Santa Cruz. You’ll love it.

dan, there is a PRC race event at laguna seca this weekend that you might really enjoy if you can make it down there. im not sure of the schedule for each day's events as it's not NASA sanctioned so the schedule as far as I know has not been posted on line. practice and qualifying are usually in the morning with racing after 1PM or so.

PRC events have some very cool cars to check out and entry includes paddock access so you can wander around checking out the machinery. if you do go I highly suggest logging some time at the jerry woods enterprises (JWE) pit area. some of the best built air cooled 911 racecars in no cal will be under the shade of the transport awning there.

there will be a PCA & PRC fund raiser club race there in mid july or there abouts as I recall. that event will be all Porsche attendees including DE participants where you will have the opportunity to meet some of the more car centric PCA folks as opposed to the show/shine/crab feed types that also are prevalent in PCA circles.

PCA on the west coast is amazing. Yea the water cooled cars are taking over but still a lot of diehards with aircooled stuff.

Probably Loma Prieta. They are having an auto cross at Morena Sept 28th. lprpca.org

There is an auto cross school being put on by GGR June 22 at Alameda PCA Golden Gate Region | It's not just the cars, It's the people.

Also check out Redwood Regions site, Welcome to Redwood Region and

lots of pictures of events here https://www.facebook.com/RedwoodRegionPCA/

There are more events in Nor Cal than you can shake a stick at and members are friendly and approachable.

I have heard rumors that some Groupe has meetups once a month in the bay area as well.

Doesn’t matter where you sign up, ggr or lpr, you can join events run by either, as long as they are on Motorsportreg.com. Wouldn’t mind a drive over 17 if we avoid the traffic.

I will be at the LPR autocross on the 16th at the Marina Municipal Airport... come join. Google Pca lpr autocross for info.

Santa Cruz based long time pelican member here, always down to hang out and chat about these cars or lend a hand. Currently my motor is in the garage and chassis in the driveway so I could use some Porsche hobby motivation.

Regarding PCA, I have had a tough time finding a home. I know the GGR is huge. Loma Prieta has gone through a couple versions but was small at one time. I heard Monterey was good at one point. Would love people’s continued feedback on what region best serves us.

One of the best parts about our slice of California is the access to Laguna Seca, I would echo everyone’s sentiment above.

Howdy Dan! Every Sat. Is an informal cars and coffee get together between 7am-9am at the Starbucks on 41st down by Safeway/Beverly’s. Several Porsche guys in the mix.. When I’m not traveling for work, I make it a regular thing. Hope to see you there.

Awesome, great suggestions and GenX and Click, I'll definitely get in touch.

Coincidentally, I ran into a local guy with a 356 at the UPS store today, and we were talking about the different PCA clubs. He recommended the Monterey club, since it keeps you on the Santa Cruz side of 17 and is proximal to Car Week, Laguna Seca, etc.

*This*

Alice's on the weekends usually has a smattering of longhood hotrod guys from the peninsula. Just introduce yourself. I'm a member of GGR and it seems all new 718s and later stuff. .. That's not really my interest.

I’m a bit north of you (mid-peninsula) but would enjoy getting together for a drive sometime. There’s a cars and coffee this weekend in portola valley (https://www.siliconvalleymotorclub.com/calendar), as well in case you’re free!

Just look outside, there will probably be like 50 air cooled 911s in any parking lot in california.

- someone who hates living in the midwest and has noticed that 99.9% of all parts for sale in the classifieds are in california

With a built 3.8 on a 912 it should. Sparky is always on to something. Previous motor was a 3.3 Turbo motor

Yep, I went on a run with one of his compadres, when we stopped and had a chance to bench race he told me the motor gets changed frequently. Here is another snap of a very cool hot rod

If you squint you can see my Cayman in the background
