MSD Blaster coil? 6A vs. 6AL

HI ther i just purchased a MSD 6A, i got it for a really good deal, i know it does not have the rev limiter, but is it worth getting the 6AL? Also do I need a blaster coil for this setup? I dont even know what the blaster coil does Please inform me, I have a 1982 porsche sc by the way, thanks again....

If your coil is working then you can use it without concern. If you have an original coil, then I think 24 years is enough and it has earned retirement. The Blaster Coil (which I use) is just a traditional coil with good quality windings and filled with epoxy to stabilise it internally under high vibration. Though I'd be interested to see how many Blasters are still going in 24 years...

I am not sure about your rev limiter situation though. From my (poor) memory I think the CDI box did the limiting in an 82 so if you have bypassed it with an MSD box you need a limiter. That being said, I dont run a limiter....

If you already own the 6A, you might just consider a "add on" soft rev limiter. I agree that a 24 year old coil is not optimized but the 6A is compatible with a large range of coils. If you decide to repurchase a box, might you consider the digital box....giving more options.

You could also add a rev limiter by using the Turbo rev limiting rotor. It fits in the SC distributor.

You need to check the specs on the 6A and 6AL. I have the 6AL and the blaster coil....some of the MSD boxes are not compatable with the MSD coils....sounds nuts doesnt it. But check the instructions and specs to make sure some coils dont play nice with the box.

Also check the specs on the coil.

Nice information you shared here about the MSD blaster coil. Many newer toy guns are brightly colored and oddly shaped to prevent them from being mistaken for real firearms.
