My 71 911T Interior Mod.

I've been working on customizing the interior of my 71T. I started with new dash trim inserts, and fabricated a one piece knee pad. Then started on custom door panels. In the works also is new upholstery and German Square Weave carpet. Nothing done can not easily be restored to stock if need be.

Very clean! Your dash piece looks sweet.

This is really going to turn out quite nicely! Thx for sharing your pics - hope you add more as you go.

I've been continuing to work on the door panels a little, and fabricated some custom door release mechanism pulls. I wanted to do something different than the RS type straps. After some brainstorming, I decided to go with knobs. Using 74+ release mechanisms, and longer connecting rods that I created using some 5/32 round stock from my local ACE Hardware, I used 8/32 eye bolts and cabinet knobs.

It took some work, but seems like they will work nicely. The plan is to have the knobs match as closely as possible to the knobs on the dash.

Rennline sells billet dash knobs. Maybe you could adapt those to work?

That was my first thought. I was hoping they had a blank version.

Nice! I have a hammock with that material and just a few days ago i was looking at it thinking it would be nice to use for something like that

Thanks.

The idea came to me as I was eating lunch at my Fathers’ house. He has place mats on the kitchen table made out of the same material. I thought it was sturdy enough and thin enough to slide right in the aluminum trim. It did, so I started searching for the right color to compliment the interior I had envisioned. I stopped by a local awning shop, and they had it in the scrap pile.

Nice touch!

My upholstery guy is running about a month behind, so while I'm waiting, I've been toying with some other tweaks/ideas.

Narrowing down the vinyl color. According to the COA, my car originally came with Brown Leatherette 21. To pay homage to the car's history, the interior will be in the brown or tan color family. Also, I am trying to decide if I want to add a strip of the carpet to the bottom of the door panel. (Note: The grey material in the picture is 1/8" foam headliner that will be used to pad the vinyl.)

I was also working on the pull knobs. Not having a lathe, I used my drill press and a rattail file to reshape some drawer knobs close to the shape I'm after.

And, I started on a rear seat delete storage compartment.

NIce, work, Bob! Where did you find the door handles?

dho

rangrbob 09-25-2019 04:34 PM

The handles are early VW Bug. I picked them from Nuvintage a VW parts shop in the Denver area. They work really well. It’s just a little tricky bolting them on, due to the fact I have to reach up into the door while holding the bottom of the panel out from the door.

Pretty. Swing by and finish my Miss Demeanor.

Not much progress on the interior, but have been continuing on the rear seat delete box. I still need to wrap it in the vinyl and figure out the best way to secure it, but you should have an idea on the direction I'm going. Although, the design may change as I continue along. :)

I like the looks of that bar - where is it from?

also, will you add luggage straps?

I ordered the bars online from a cabinet hardware supplier. They are shoe rails for shelving. I was hoping to find one that was long enough to run the width in one piece, but no one seems to have one. Yes, I do plan on adding luggage straps. My initial thought was to use one to secure the box itself, at least in the front.

Shoe rail...still looks great. Not detail there.

RWebb 10-04-2019 04:50 PM

35" ok?
