Window and door lock issues

My driver's window stopped working a few months ago. I took the door card off to have a look, and eventually I tried using the manual "hex key in the motor" trick to see if the window would move. Applying slight pressure, there was a mild pop, and then the window started working. Using the motor, everything seemed smooth and it didn't appear to be straining. I greased everything I could get to and hoped that would be the end of it.

At the same time, I wanted to grease the lock mechanism while I had everything apart. To make a long story short, I did the dumb thing and broke the power lock actuator arm. I replaced that and got everything hooked up again. The new arm is plastic instead of the original adjustable metal threaded rod with plastic cap. So I had to move the solenoid very slightly to get the arm attached to the mechanism. After that, all was good.

So now it's six months later, the window has stopped working again, and so has the power door lock. For the lock, I'm assuming the arm has just popped off and I need to get it back on. But given that the car hasn't seen a lot of miles since I replaced the arm, maybe there is more of a trick to setting this up to make sure it doesn't come off again. Any suggestions on this? I will say that the top door trim seems to be binding slightly on the lock indicator post. Maybe that caused enough friction to make the arm come off. I will try to adjust that accordingly.

For the window, I'm not sure what to do next. Should I try just replacing the motor? Or would it be better to take the whole motor and regulator out and see if the regulator needs refurb or replacement? I'm not sure what could cause the mechanism to seize up, but also break free with just a little encouragement - whether that's more likely to be the motor or the regulator.

Thanks for any tips, brain trust!

Sorry you didn’t get an answer; for anyone else with window issues, these videos were very helpful (he has a huge series of them) subtitled, very nicely made.

Usually the regulator breaks. A pin that is staked to the regulator and holds the spring that helps the window go up, falls off. You can replace it with a carriage bolt from your favorite hardware store. It may require a little grinding of the head as there isn't much space at the back of the regulator. Take the door card back off and have a look around. One of my window motors was very slow. Turned out to be 40 year old grease. A quick cleaning of the transmission and some new grease fixed it right up. Feel free to send pictures. I just went through this and can probably help.
