Beware scammers!! DAVEP1 and MEADOWS DANNY

I posted in the classifieds that I WTB a headlight switch for my 1983 911. I got a PM from a guy that went by the name DAVEP1 and he was a registered user. He said to reach out o Meadows Danny at mdwsdanny@gmail.com and that he had a switch to sell. I sent him an email and he said he had one in good condition for $100 shipped. I sent him the money via bitcoin and then never heard back from him. Almost immediately, DAVEP1 got banned.

Be very careful of anyone who wants to tell you of someone who has a part available.

I also got a PM from Ben Jesse as well but there was a previous post about him being a scammer too working with a Steve Hill who uses email Stevehill2211@gmail.com

These are probably the same people. Basically what happens is the one person sends a PM saying their friend has the part for sale and gives you their email.

I lost $100 and really needed the part and now I dont trust anyone so that is really the tough part.

I have been getting this recently as well from various people from my WTB thread. I've been replying thanks but never sending an email to the gmail account they mention. I just assume their out to scam due to the recent complaints from other members.

Yeah, I would highly recommend that no one replies to or sends money to anyone offering a part. Unfortunately bad people are out there.

I have heard that offering to pay with paypal will scare off most scammers. A friend sells jewelry and tells me that works well.

He might as well just have told you he was a scammer.

Red flags 101, lesson one: I know a guy that has the item you are looking for....

Too bad you lost your monnies. That always stings.

What was wrong with your Paypal?
Just out of curiousity. I am not interested in (personal) details or something.
I presume nothing related to this transaction or the seller?

a bit of research on a suspect member is pretty simple. new member, low post count, look at their history of posts and threads started? if they are not a regularly participating member with a solid history don't open your wallet up. pretty easy to do.
