55 limit that does not look like either of the cars was doing it...looks like the 911 dude will be ok ..still sad ..possibly the pedestrian was the cause...

Not really - just a loose nut behind the wheel. And it doesn't even have to be in the same car.

Looks like NB I-5. If so, it's pretty typical for traffic from O'side to Trestles to run ~80-90 mph, slowing down for the BP checkpoint. Signs along that stretch to warn for illegal immigrants crossing the fwy (to avoid BP). Sad for all; pedestrian on the fwy especially at night must send the pucker factor up to 9+.

I had a friend in college who ended up killing a pedestrian on that same stretch of fwy (SB, just south of that location -- Crown Valley Pkwy). Dude walked out into traffic and lay down in the fast lane to commit suicide.

From Blaine to San Diego a “pedestrian” on I-5 is almost certainly a drugged and/or deranged homeless person. I guess it could possibly be a construction worker in this instance but I wouldn’t bet on it. Regardless, sad someone lost their life. Hope the air cooled driver was ok, sad to see such a nice car in that state.

Yeep!! I don't really care who the person on foot was or why they were on the freeway, and condeming them is both unnecessary and unkind. That's an ugly crash, and I hope the 911 driver is relatively OK. A crash like that is a reminder that we are more vulnerable than most vehicle passengers when we're in a car designed in the '60s. It must have been quite bad, as even the Tesla (with its very strong body shell) got it bad.

Jeez that 911's front end was mangled, the driver is lucky to be alive. Not so much for the pedestrian unfortunately

These cars are tough units - the 911 took a big impact to bend like that, the passenger compartment looks relatively intact. I hope the driver is ok. He looked alert getting loaded into the ambulance. I hope he is well enough that he’s thinking about which project to put his 3.2 into.

. . .
It is on the southbound I-5 right before the 73 merges in.

I didn't see anything that looked like construction zone in the vid so I suspect it is one of those places where they put up a sign and sometime later you might see some construction.

8J tags - bought out of state and registered in CA in the last 12-18 months, most likely.

Unless original CA owner had personalized plates, or the original plates were tatty...

Sorry for everyone involved.

Salvageable engine?
