Porsche Crest Fuel Leak at the Accumulator

Hello Pelicans,

I am the recent proud owner of a 76 911s and this is my first post. I have been doing minor repairs and freshening up this mostly original black beauty. While driving, I have been getting whiffs of gasoline. Today, I was sitting with the ignition on while working on an interior project. I started smelling gasoline again. I first checked the frunk with no results. I then started looking in the engine compartment and found a puddle of fuel under the accumulator. It seems pretty clear that I need to replace the accumulator - the fuel filter looks clean and new - should I replace both? Is it best to go with OEM or is Bosch basically the same? Any additional suggestions?

Thank you in advance,

Ron.

Hello CuberR3 and welcome to the Pelican Forums!

If you have not taken a look at our "How To" Tech Articles, we have a great write-up for the accumulator replacement.

Both Genuine Porsche and Bosch Fuel Accumulators are available on our site, both are essentially the same part, the Bosch just may not have the Porsche badge on it. Bosch is the OE for most German manufacturers and will definitely save you a few bucks. Feel free to call in to our Parts Specialists anytime for more in depth assistance.

Again, welcome to the community and happy wrenching!

Leaking fuel accumulator........

Ron,

Check if the bottom side of the fuel accumulator is wet with fuel. I believe you have a two-port fuel accumulator that does not have a drain port. Double check that the leak is caused by the fuel accumulator and not by a leaking fuel line. With regards to replacing fuel filters, it is not straight forward. Sometimes a different fuel filter will have a different inlet/outlet fitting than what you have now and will require adaptors. Unless you really want to switch to another brand or model of your fuel filter, better make sure you have the right fuel line adaptor/s.

Hello Gianni,

Thank you for the reply - Are there copper washers required for the installation?

Hello Tony,

Thank you for the feedback. The fuel accumulator certainly seems have been installed for quite some time. It looks to be leaking from the sides and dripping from the bottom. There may be a small hole on the bottom as I was checking. I do not see any fuel coming from the lines. I also see some sort of bracket on the lower portion of the accumulator - could that be loose?

On a quick side note - any idea what the brown wire is for?
