Chris Flavell - Fenn Lane Motorsports??

Anyone heard from recently - have a contact number other than email? Ordered a sunroof delete panel over a month ago and have not heard anything - 3 emails over the past 3 weeks have not been returned...

Anyone?

Thanks -

Wow, that is sad news indeed.

Bought a lightweight starter from him long time ago, great guy to deal with.

RIP Chris

Uh, sad news indeed.
Never got to know him.
But I have his panel.
Installing it will have a special meaning then.

The good just die too young :-(
RIP

I had ordered a flywheel that did not show up and he was not returning emails. That was not normal so I was somewhat concerned. I am very sad to hear about his passing. We had many great conversations on the phone and via email. What saddens me more is that he took his own life.

Very sad to hear. I had exchanged messages with him a few times and he was always very helpful and freely shared his knowledge.

Sad to hear this.
His willingness to share his vast well of knowledge on this forum has been matched by only a handful of others. I will miss his science-based discussions, insights, and product developments.

The nature of Chris's passing should remind us all to look out for those who are lonely and hurting, although such folks often don't always make it easy to see or help. Extremely sad. John

Depression is horrible, and effects everyone, creative inquisitive minds such as Chris are often hit with it. I never got the chance to meet him, for that I am sad.
He will be missed. I am so sorry.

My condolences.

Do not know of the gentleman but this thread ... is sad and depressing to read. Obituary sticky perhaps to pay respects to the departed ?

Yesterday I happened across the mention of his passing in another thread here on Pelican and was compelled to find out more. His username here is chris_seven

I came across the DDK thread linked above by MBEngineering and read it start to end. Very very sad to hear he took his own life. One can tell by the mentions on the DDK thread he was highly regarded by all he dealt with in his homeland. I was always amazed by his contributions here- look up his posts here and most will be stunned by the technical know-how he possessed He was a great contributor with thoughtful, detailed posts. He also provided great solutions for known problems with our cars, as well as designed numerous upgrade parts for these cars

It appears he was as forthcoming with his time in person as much as he was with his forum posts. Which makes it that much more surprising that he felt he didn't have many friends. I hear this next statement all the time and I feel it’s becoming more and more important as time marches on. “You never know what someone else’s situation is.” I say that to remind people to not be so quick to judge if we don’t like what we hear or experience. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Reach out to them if you feel like something is out of the ordinary or isn’t quite right with what you normally see from them. Because your gut feeling is often right and therefore you may be just what that person needs. But obviously people were trying to reach out to Chris and he still chose to do what he did. Sad........

Rest In Peace Chris. You are appreciated and missed by many. Not solely on account of what knowledge you possessed and shared with us. But for the fact that you were so willing and forthcoming with your talents. Gone but not forgotten. Live on, brother.

. . .
Dayyyuuummmnn, I used to read in awe Chris's posts discussing the metallurgy of fasteners (such as in the many threads on the infamous dilivar studs that Porsche used for decades, despite their high failure rates), etc., and noticed that he had disappeared over the past few years. Wow, shiity!

Adding this only to add to understanding a complex and bad situation:
Reading on ddk-online.com (excellent British Porsche club site) it seems Mr. Flavell left behind much complicated and unresolved business, namely, cars and parts in his shop which may have been separated from their rightful owners, plus ugly shennanigans by others descending (illegally) into his premises after he'd checked himself out of this life. Much heartburn for certain of those who trusted and were doing business with him. Brilliant and capable guy? No doubt. In over his head, the business he created got away from him? It would seem so. Where friendships intersect with commerce and one party loses their direction, the memories and sadness can be - understandably - tainted with anger... some of our peers over there got thoroughly screwed. All very sad. John
