ISO M&K muffler sound check betw SoCal / LV / SLC / SF Bay Area

Greetings all!

I'm currently running a Dansk pre-muffler + Bisimoto PC "muffler." It's loud, lightweight and fun, but doesn't work for my purposes (6 am Saturday dawn patrol departures from my suburban neighborhood).

I have an M&K Active Exhaust pre-muffler en route. I'd like to pair that with an M&K 1 in / out, but would like to hear a couple M&K 1 in / out mufflers first (i.e. 2.5" version, 3" version, etc) in person.. Preferably in conjunction with a pre-muffler.

I am about to embark on a 2,000 mile road trip tomorrow, in my M5...
San Diego,
Los Angeles,
Las Vegas,
Salt Lake City,
Reno,
Sacramento,
SF Bay Area,
returning back to San Diego on, or about, 8/7...

Anybody down to let me listen to their M&K exhaust setup on / near that route?

FWIW, here's a vid of first cold startup with the Dansk pre-muffler and the Bisimoto Pulse Chamber muffler (without sound arrestor). On the one hand, a cool lil' piece of kit and on the other hand... a glorified muffler delete.

And for grins, here's the unit at shutdwown...

It's fun in a super juvenile sorta way and super lightweight, but will only be on until the M&K Active Exhaust pre-muffler arrives. I'll settle on a final muffler choice after I have that installed. I'll initially run the Active Exhaust pre-muffler with a Dansk 84mm sport muffler, but want to end up with something lighter than that still. I like the Dansk 84, especially the aesthetics of the tip, but want something one step more aggressive and as light as practicable (I've already lost ~20 pounds between bumperette delete & Euro crush tube swap. I'd like to lose 10 more via the muffler). I'd love to hear different M&Ks (2.5" vs 3") before deciding.

To give a sense of how muffler-deletey the Bisi is, check out the vid in this post...

That's with Bisi sound arrestor installed and <2,000 RPM!

Anyway, thanks for reading and lemme know if I can come check out your M&K setup. If you're in SoCal, I can easily come by at some later date (i.e. after ~8/7).

Anybody willing to show off their M&K exhaust? I'm happy to listen from 6+ feet away.

Hi Frank, we've met in the past in RSF. I have a m&k 1 in 1 out on my 3.2 with m&k bypass.

Shoot me a pm and we can meet up sometime

Matt

frank -- do you still have a stock muffler for your 911s? I'm running my active M&K cat with my original, factory muffler and the m&k active cat fundamentally changed the character of my exhaust sound (for the better) -- Not sure how one can evaluate a muffler's sound characteristics without doing so in conjunction with the active exhaust (and, like me, you may find that it's an ideal "foil" to the formerly anemic stock muffler sound)

Darrin,

I have...
Two factory mufflers,
A factory muffler that has been modified by removing some of the internal baffles.
A Borla muffler,
A Dansk SS 84mm sport Muffler,
A Bisimoto PC "muffler."

Additionally...
A couple factory cats,
A few gutted factory cats,
A factory pre-muffler,
A Dansk SS pre-muffler.

Yes, Darrin, I have a problem... https://www.instagram.com/p/CCjquAoFTmj/ They say admitting it is the first step, but I've been stuck on that step for decades now.

I won't go as far as saying that i've tried every permutation of the above cat / pre-muffler + muffler combos, but I've tried most.

I like the Dansk 84 in conjunction with a pre-muffler, but want something one step more aggressive (so, ~two steps more aggressive than stock?) at startup, idle, part-throttle and cruise. I want the unit to be as light as practicable too (so... stock, or Dansk sausage style, mufflers don't qualify).

This brings me back to M&K muffler options as they A) provide the ~10 pound weight reduction, from a stock muffler, that I am targeting and B) are more aggressive sounding than the Dansk Sport muffler. However, given that I have the WOT sound and flow covered by the "muffler bypass" functionality of the M&K Active Exhaust pre-muffler, I am looking to solve for my preferred startup, idle, part-throttle and cruise sound level via one of their mufflers too. In short, I am trying to decide whether I prefer the sound of the M&K 2.5" or 3" at startup, idle, part-throttle and cruise.

gotcha! and makes perfect sense -- keep us appraised, very interested in your thoughts on the active premuffler's role/contribution to all of this
