DIY Victory for Pelicanite!!!!

Have you guys ever noticed how much better the beer tastes after successfully completing a DIY project?

Today I changed the starter on my '75 Euro Carrera. Certainly not the hardest proect, but definitely intimidating when you have to remove that top barrel nut blind and you know if you ($*@(%&@ things up, your car won't be running.

One year ago, an oil change intimidated me. Now thanks to Pelican, I am able to change a starter. One small victory for mankind!

Happy Easter to all!

I agree there's nothing like the feeling you get when you complete a DIY project on the Porsche successfully.
Cheers and enjoy

Indeed. And colors are brighter, smells are sweeter and it makes your Johnson bigger, too. Congratulations.

My steak seems juicer, and my little glass of bourbon seems smoother too.
BTW I love telling my coworkers that I am spending my weekend alone in the garage with my baby. They don't get it. And probably never will.

$$$

I always like to think of the money I saved doing it myself vs. having a shop do it. I then end up figuring this justifies buying more tools or parts...

I'm going broke saving money

I hear ya Gordo. It takes me atleast four times as long to do it myself. If I figure what I make an hour I'm loosing money because it would be much cheaper to pay a mechanic and get back to work. But if people ask I tell them how much I "saved."

Do not forget that one doesn't pay taxes on the labor one applies to a DIY task. Ones saves more than is at first apparent. I helped a friend crimp on a new A/C fitting last evening on his SC; out of pocket cost was $4.00 for the fitting. He has installed a new 134a compressor with safety switch and flushed his condensers. All he has to do at our A/C tech session next weekend is mount the new drier, leak check, pump down and we'll fill it up with 134a. Besides the money savings it is very satisfying doing things oneself. Cheers, Jim

Yes! Although I have been fortunate in that I have only had to take my car to a wrench to adjust the mixture and do the alignment. Otherwise, I do all my own wrenching. I just learn as I need.

And if it wasn't for this board, I probably would have to take it to a wrench for a lot of things.

Porsche Crest

You could waste more than four hours if looking for the hidden barrel nut ... if ONLY looking from beneath with various mirrors, hand and stalk-mounted variety ... before removing the driver's side wheel and peering over the transaxle with a flashlight!!! Then, if you email/post to find out what size Allen drive bit ... it could take a while longer to find a 10 mm drive bit locally ... if you don't already have the tool on hand!

Right on Wolf - hell of a hobby isn't it. And the icing on the cake is driving 'em!

No Kidding! - I've got this one guy who comes to me at work the other day and says "why don't you just buy a Boxster and be done with it..."
Talk about not getting it.... What is the appropriate response to a comment like that ? BTW I tried F*ck off - you're and idiot" already, it didn't work, he suggested it again the next time I saw him.
