Hardwire Help!

Hi all -
Attempting to hardwire my Valentine V1 radar into my '85 911 - stymied!

Using Valentine's direct wire power adapter, connected the power wire to a "switched" wire (same one feeding the head unit) and the other to the ground; nothing! Turned on the ignition - radio comes on, but not the V1. Tested the lines, they're fine. Tried connecting the power wire to the live wire - that works (not a permanent fix as the detector is always on and will drain the battery).

I've done hardwire applications in a number of previous cars before, albeit not one this old. What am I missing??? Appreciate any help!

BTW - if you previously saw this post in the "911 / 930 Turbo & Super Charging Forum", rookie mistake on my part...

The hardwire kit has a fuse. Also, make sure you are plugging the v1 into the main, not the acc plug of the hardwire kit.

Other than that, perhaps where the power wire attaches (did you use the 3m crimp connector?) didn’t make a solid connection.

Thanks. Yes - checked the fuse and it is plugged into the main, not the acc.

Going to go back in and recheck the connections (again)... just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious.

Problem solved. Tested all of the crimp connections again - all were fine. Unplugged everything, plugged it back in and I’m up and running. I’ll take it

guess it was an analog re-boot...

I am going to try this over the weekend. Any pics would be much appreciated.

I have the V1 Power Adapter tapped into the yellow hot wire coming from the ignition switch to the head unit, and to a ground. Power is on in all key positions except off.

I have my detector mounted in the upper left window:

Currently, I have the wire taped-down with electrical tape between the window seal and the frame; definitely not my best work, but the tape actually blends in well - barely visible. Trying to come up with a better application.

Bigger challenge is feeding the wire from the window to below the dash:

The crevices where the side of the dash meets the frame are extremely tight and I'm having a hard time keeping the wire in place. I'm going to see if I can figure out how to feed it alongside the left dashboard air vent to get it under the dash vs. how it is now; needless to say, I want to avoid drilling holes. Open to any recommendations on how to better run the wiring.

Hope this helps!
