How to Reassemble Rectangular Chrome Side View Mirror
I'm helping a buddy re-assemble his '75 911S after it's come back from paint. While out for paint he took all the chrome bits to a shop who polished it.
In doing so, they took the mirror apart to polish the individual pieces separately. I now have a bag of bits that may or may not belong to this mirror. They broke the black seal around the mirror perimeter - is this a serviceable/purchaseable part? It seems like no, so either I need to glue the seal or he needs to get a new mirror. ![]() Assuming I CAN replace/fix the seal, I've laid out the parts that I think are needed for re-assembly. Can anyone verify I've got the right stuff? My biggest question is the spring in there. There are 2 different springs - is the thicker silver one the correct one? Any help you can offer would be appreciated! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hi wrxnofx
Nofx's new album is a good one. now to the mirror, on mine it has the big spring holding it to the base, with the washer and nut. not sure where the little spring goes unless its for behind the screw that hold the mirror to the base which is why the washer with the square hole has the raised edges. The seal im not sure about, i havent seen a replacement anywhere. if it was me i would try and use whats left of the seal or use some sikaflex to hold the mirrow in and run a nice bead around it and smooth it out using soapy water. maybe even using some tape to cover the glass and trimming it to the edges and that way you wouldnt get anything on the glass when gluing it. the only thing with gluing is that im not sure you will ever get it apart with out breaking the mirror. Hope that helps |

Thanks, Blinkx! I have not yet picked up their new album yet but I hear it is good, too.
Thanks for confirming what my thoughts were, both about the spring and about the seal. It's possible the other spring isn't used anywhere, given the bag of hardware I was given. This helps tremendously!

The black seal is not available but you might find a "U" channel that would suffice. I broke my mirror removing it and gave it to my local glass guy who made a new one (slightly smaller) and installed it for me. The parts that attaches the mirror to the base gets a spring on each end.
