What a fantastic story and spectacular project.

Looking forward to reading the progress.

The research process must be a fun one, Wayne.

This thread would be more interesting if they fixed the search engine in this forum first.

An astute person just emailed me regarding one of the Sultan cars and asked whether the silver car in some of the photos was actually maybe blue. I don't think so, here's why.

This fellow said:

In the past few months I did a lot of research about the Dauer 962 and came to similar conclusions / chassis numbers and their remains as you. But here is the reason im writing an email to you: What you consider to be the silver deck lid of a Dauer 962 next to the '95 Le Mans winning F1 GTR #59 is actually a blue one. I have pictures from the side view as well but I cant make out if it is a Dauer or a normal 962. The round cutouts at the back also lead me to believe that this is actually a Dauer but that would mean that there is a still unknown Dauer 962 at the Brunei.
I had seen that writing, but didn't take a closer look until a few minutes ago. I wrote back:

I do indeed know the images that you’re referring to. Allow me to show you some more. Here’s the photo you mention there:

Here’s a front shot of that car in the same spot (see the floor tiles). There is a rear Porsche 959 wheel in the background:

Here it is again, in silver, #D, next to the F1 race car (E):

And this is the photo that I believe you’re referring to:

Here, the car in the background looks blue. But, this is a high-contrast photo taken with an old-style film camera and it used a standard flashbulb, which has a habit of changing the colors when photos are taken.

As for the writing on the car, it’s backwards and says “UenoClinic” – which is a reflection of the light from the flashbulb, bouncing off of the McLaren. Here you can see this McLaren with that script and livery on it:

Hope that clears up some of the confusion!

We are easing out of restrictions, mainland Europe has bigger problems with vaccine uptake. You should be good in a month or so.

Btw, if you need AC in the Dauer, we have developed a small electric race car unit and have measured up against a 962CR.

Funny story. We were asked about restoring the HVAC for the 962CR prototype (001). It apparently had heating and AC. The HVAC control panel in that car is from an 80's Ford Escort. Behind the panel there were no connections to anything at all! It was just for show and there was no heat or AC equipment in the car. There is, however, space allocated for a blower unit. It fits in the space behind the LH front wheel. I would imagine the same in the Dauer.

May update! We went over to take inventory of the Dauer molds, and we also pulled out the chassis we're using from storage, and have started working on the modifications needed to fit the Dauer street car "stuff". Some photos:

I've no doubt. I guess I should've written "You gotta love a speedo that registers over 400kph, in a car that can do it"!

I wish I had a solid model of the body to compare to one of the race 962s. It's interesting to see how much they needed to morph it to make it somewhat streetable.
