Annoying door clicking
My SC’s driver’s side door has that awful clicking sound when opening and closing. I know there’s a lots of advice on fixes for this, but is there any reason that I just couldn’t remove the check arm from the pin on the a-pillar? Would that affect any of the door stability or support? I did this on my suburban door, and it worked out fine.

Replace the pin with a 6mm bolt ane nylock nut and tighten until it shuts up. Then see if the area in the door where it mounts is still tight and solid. Lots of doors need a serious repair in there. Some just need the nuts or bolts tightened up.

I had a terrible popping sound when I opened the door on my SC. I did as John described and completely eliminated the problem. Amazing!

The bolt is a great first step, but the door click will most likely come back unless you do the doorstop rubber shave mod detailed elsewhere on this forum.
The factory put way to much tension into the door stops. |

Tighten the nut more if it comes back.

How many times? 3 was my limit
![]() edit: TBH, I looked at the doorstop mod years ago and thought, "I don't need that". But years later after fighting the doorstop issues on several cars, including the saver plates and torn metal I reconsidered. It is a good mod that resolves all the issues, include the door sheet metal problems. Last edited by eastbay; 02-05-2021 at 06:20 AM.. |

Or drive in a door stop pin all the way (freeze it first.)

I appreciate the information. But why can’t I just disconnect it from the pin? I don’t really care about having a door stop.

If you do that, the whole thing should be removed, or the arm can get kinked and bend the door hole.

Fine with me. Will the door loose any support or stability?

You could hyper extend the door causing thousands in damage to the door if you remove the strap. Wind.

Gotta an idea. What about attaching an industrial grade spring from the door stop arm to the pin hole? It’d be long enough to be able to open the door easily but strong enough to prevent the door hinge from hyperextending.

Fabric or leather strap. Lots of vehicles have used these over the years. Simple, light, effective

the suburban hinges have stops built into the hinges. I dont think the 911 door has them so the only thing to stop it would be the fender. I dont think a spring would work there is nowhere for it to go when closed. I fixed my door with big washers and i think i made a cutom plate to disperse the load. Its a pain to fix but if you put in the effort to do a good job it will last a long time.

I would not recommend going without any kind of door stop. I did that for a while and every time I opened the door I had to be conscious it would not swing and hit another car or swing all the way open and overstress the door by the hinges. If it gets away from you just once, you will kick yourself for it.
I ultimately went with the replacement being sold here which was quite stiff and made its own annoying noises until I operated on it as per multiple threads on this board.
