LUFT 7 in Indy - Who's going?

From Wisconsin there's no real way to spice up this drive. Four hours of dead straight hwy and Chicago traffic. However, it's basically in our backyard compared to California so we've booked lodging and will show up in force. IMS is hallowed ground; it would be amazing to see them put on a mini rennsport reunion in addition to the cup cars and Luft show.

Indy may not everyone's #1 destination but St. Elmo's is always worth a visit!

Carmel is a hot spot for car events as well, it seems. You guys think it's going to be at the speedway?

Speculation only, but I’ll wager the events will be primarily be at the Speedway and the downtown Monument Circle.

I suppose it’s possible that they have something in the Carmel Arts District, but seems unlikely to me given that a large event (Artomobilia) will be there just 2 weeks prior to Luft.

Again, pure speculation.

I wouldn’t recommend staying in Speedway itself. Downtown is close enough to the track if that’s where the event itself is being held. There’s a new boutique style hotel on Massachusetts Ave. That would give you easy walking access to better restaurants and bars than you’ll find in the center of downtown, which is mostly large chains.

Bottleworks was sold out as of the announcement - a bunch of guys booked rooms there based on the rumor that Rennsport Reunion was coming to Indy that weekend. It ended up being Luft but all the same...

Do not stay in Speedway.
Get a hotel in downtown Indy proper if you want to be close.

Ironworks in Keystone is a nice hotel on the north edge of the city. It'll make for a 30 minute drive to the event...provided the event is at IMS.

Otherwise, I'd be looking for hotels north of the city. Get north of 86th street would be my recommendation.

Any other hotels that have a good garage, preferably without valet? I plan to bring a special car -whether it makes it in the event as a display car or not - and not sure how comfortable I'd be parking outside at night. And valet attendants that can drive a manual are really few and far between. Not just "yeah I can drive it", but actually drive it without the smell of your clutch wafting in the air as they buck it out of sight.

A group of us will be cannonballing up there for the day. It's only about 1 1/2 hours from me, finally one close enough to attend!
