speedometer strange behaviour...

while driving yesterday, I observed that the speedometer was not working...I removed it and all wires were positioned solid. I drove again, and 5 minutes lated it started to work.
Today, it was not working again but woke up after driving for a while...
Any idea what is the problem here and what can be done?

And probably the odometer and trip aren’t working either. Sounds like the gear has broken or starting to disintegrate. I had the same thing happen to mine, it was off and on a couple of times before giving in. I sent mine to North Hollywood speedo. They did quick work and if you can’t stand the 15% +/- speed error you can ask them to perform a precise calibration. They will ask to confirm tire sizes, afterward I’m within 1 mph of GPS…..no 15% off as before.
