Got to get some tail
After seeing Mark's ducktail at this weekends Dallas gathering, I'm left with serious envy and have decided to add a ducktail to my '83 SCarrera. It's already a bastard of a car, so being period correct is not very important to me.
Any recommendations on where to buy a one piece fiberglass lid with ducktail? I know Performance Products, Tweeks, and MA Shaw all carry it. Any experieince with these or others? Also, given that its a track car, should I be concerned at all with getting enough downforce from the ducktail. I know its not as effective as the larger tails, but will I notice any problems at speeds less than 120 mph? |

Check GT-racing too (www.gt-racing.com), don't know about the downforce stuff but if you call gt-racing, Hank may be able to answer some of your questions... try to find a ducktail with a vertical reinforcement (like the one Mark has), from time to time in the Pelican classifieds you will find ducktail and I know of someone that has an original ducktail for sale (not cheap!).
Also you may want to check with Pelican Parts, I'm sure that they will carry ducktails. No affiliation with any of the mentioned suppliers. regards

In almost every "where's the best fiberglass" thread, MAShaw always floats to the top. They seem to have the rep of the highest quality parts requiring the least prep to fit and paint. The other places that cater more towards racers may have quality parts, but the common point seems to be that they are more rough and require work to get them to fit or make them ready for paint. I guess that stuff is not as important on a race car as it is a street car.

MA Shaw!
they are a bit more expensive, like 400.00, but fit like a glove. I wish I had kept theirs instead of going the cheaper route. I was being wishy-washy on the tail at the time. Mistake, I love the ducktail, but mine looks like crap cuz the fitment is off quite a bit, especially across the top of the lid under the window, it sticks up like 1/2 inch. I also had to dork with the latch quite a bit, the angle of the mount on the lids seems to be off too....Oh well......

if this means anything, it took me 15 minutes to install my MA Shaw hood, Perfect fit. My front YB CTR bumper cap from MA Shaw took less than an afternoon and fit perfectly. I tried another piece for the rear and it took much longer and required alot of metal tweaking and fiberglass work to make it fit. There is a big difference between race and street glass. If you want a car that looks good from the grandstands then you don't need the quality of MA Shaw. If you have a street car that needs to always look good, MA Shaw is the ticket. A little more money, but in the world of fiberglass, you get what you pay for.
