Thinking of 3.6 mods.

So I have a 93 MY, 3.6 in my SC. Single outlet with a cat and 993 HEs. Georgia doesn't give a flip on my mods.

What is a good bump for that engine? I was thinking ITBs, a 4.0 P&C kit, and an appropriate cam.

A Jai Lee 4.0 liter is as good as it gets.

Wow! 4.4 litre.
I bet Mezger is (edit: would be) both proud and a little ashamed that he over engineered the 2 litre engine to such an extent!!

You could ditch the cat and use a two in two out muffler. Once it's breathes nicely, you can put a more aggressive chip in. I did it to my 3.6 and the difference is pretty noticeable; more power, wider power band by about 1k rpm, and better throttle response.

It has the benefit of being relatively inexpensive as 911 mods go.

How load is that? Compared to factory exhaust.

I'd say twice as loud, it's not bad.

A 3.6 with ITBs + sport exhaust will be fun w/o cracking the engine open

A 4.0 is 102.7 x 80.4....I think this can be done with slip-fit nickies, but requires an 80.4 crank

If I were needing more than a 3.6 and cost was still an object, I would go 3.8 102.7x76.4
Stock crank and slip-fit nickies......ITBs, sport exhaust, etc.

regards,
al

A 3.8 piston/cylinder set must be the least bang for the buck you can do unless you need new pistons and cylinders.
Headers, cams, removing the vane air flow meter, injectors and you are at 300 hp (depending on dyno).
Me and a friend have very similar engines, but he has a 3.8 set, we are very close on power.
Why not add a super charger or a turbo if needing more than 300, unless its for the cool sound of open ITBs. Turbo is on my list when I tap out the performance currently in the car.

There a lot of variables that enter into the equation

here's a set of dyno #s that I've taken locally, all are 993 rear wheel torque in lb-ift

As expected a stock 993 3.6 nvr w/ stock cats is the least impressive, a 3.6 catless 993 3.6 w/ RS hyd cams in next, a 3.6 stock exhaust vrm next and a 3.8 RS next. The surprise is the 3.8 is better than the 4.0 rothsport below ~4500, this is the result of cams that allow 400+ hp in the 4.0. The ITbs on the 4.0 also exhibited remarkable and instantaneous acceleration

for street use the best bang for the buck is cat delete followed by a change to vram. I suspect that the GT3 intake w/ ITBS and mild cams on a stock 3.6 would be right in there

Here's a comparison of some exhausts
Best is either a merged X or split cat delete, I like the split as there is less resonance interference than in the merged, the X will be a bit quieter

My 3.6 (964) hit 190ft-lbs at 3600 climbed to 250 at 5200 back to 200 at 6500.
A bit peaky.
But its just numbers, probably not the same on another dyno.
My exhaust has the banks separated, 2 smallish straight through mufflers on each bank.
