show me your - cold air intake 3.2L engine

I'm sick of dealing with the factory air box. I hate the rear clips. So - it came out tonight.

I bought the kit from Evolution Motorsports via Pelican. You know - this one: Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-INTK911

I just loosely put it in tonight. It doesn't fit well. It hits both the intake in a bad spot, as well as gets rubbed by the a/c hose when the hinge comes down. So - I don't like it. Maybe if I didn't have a/c it would be OK. You will probably see it in the "parts for sale" section soon.

I'm now considering the kit from *********** - found here: Porsche RAC001 Cold Air Intake for 911 1984-89 3.2L

I've seen some pics and this would not have the clearance issues. What else are people running though, and where did you get it?

Thanks,

Ken

l too brought the kit from evolution motorsports and it's not a good fit. l ran it on my 3.2 for about 5mins and it also looks like it's going to rub through the outer mesh. Mine rubs mainly on the intake manifold where you remove the stud/mount for the oem airbox.A very poor design l would not recommend this to anyone and they're not exactly cheap...
Cheers Gerry

Ha I just bought the evo intake this morning, and wish I would have seen this. I don't have A/C and have a tail, so maybe i'll get lucky with the fit. I'll report back Friday on how it goes.

I bought the same product. While I'm happy with how it works, I'm not so happy with how it looks. I've ran into the same issues as others.

The ad for the "Cold Air Intake" mentions the "restrictive factory airbox". The factory airbox isn't a restriction for a stock or nearly stock engine. Dyno tests have consistently shown that putting holes in the airbox, cutting the airbox face open, or replacing the airbox is good for zero horsepower. It will increase induction noise as the airbox does work as a muffler of sorts. Most people will interpret an increase in noise as an increase in power so they will believe that their louder intake has increased the power...

The ad mentions that "it catches cooler air from the upper vent in the engine lid" which is exactly where the air comes from for the factory airbox. No difference there...

Irritation at trying to get at the airbox clips is the good reason to do this modification. Otherwise it is just a cashflow device.

yeah we had the exact same problem and it pissed me off to no end rubbing a freeking hole into my pleats on my spendy filter.

after a few cold ones and some discussion.....................out came the handheld SAWZ-ZALL and NO MORE PROBLEM. i will never go back to the stock airbox so i dont care. we mounted some sticky bak velcro on the cut area and problem over.

then we called k&n and got one of their RED(natch) nylon prefilters due to dusty conditions here and life is GOOD!

Let's not forget about not having to buy paper air filters anymore too.

But paper air filters work the best.

none of those are "cold air" intakes.
Get a pipe outside of the hot engine bay and you might actually gain something from real cold air.
