Engine electrical panel number stamps
I’ve been working on my engine electrical panel and was trying to reproduce the numbers. Came up with an idea to use Staedtler gum erasers to make stamps. It was super easy to carve and gave a decent result. I used light gray primer to ink it up. Thought I might post it here in case it helps anybody else.

What does the # represent? Is it from a QA inspector, or a date code?

I’ve seen a few different number stamps for the black 70-73 panel (03, 04, 05, 08, 16).
I’m not certain, but I think the different numbers depended upon which car it was destined for; what market, what options. For example if it had a single or dual stage defroster, a cold start valve, noise suppression, Bosch or Marchal voltage regulator, or if it were destined for a non-fuel injected T car, etc… All would have had different set ups… that’s my theory anyway. Mine was missing so I stamped this one based on an original one from a similar car (1970E ROW car with single stage defrost). |
