Keys are gone, i went to my local Porsche dealer with the VIN # so that Porsche of North America could cut me a new set. The parts manager told me the car is to old and PNA wont have the key code on file any longer, its a 1980 911 sc. some one must have the key code somewhere now what do i do?

I have to imagine that if you took out the glove compartment lock and brought it to a good locksmith they could make one for you - probably cheaper than the dealer. Just went to my local locksmith and had the Valet key made from the standard key - cost me $1.75!

Key From VIN

I just got a key made from the VIN for my '83 SC by a dealer. I should think you could do the same for an '81...

Also recommend calling around to other dealers.

The new key ended up costing about $35.

Good luck, Gordo

Cool Lost Keys

Since the keys are "Lost" and you don't know who might have them or find them, I would take the door panels off, remove the door handles (not hard to do) and have the lock cylinders for the doors rekeyed for a different key pattern. The locksmith would simply have to rearrainge the brass plates in the cylinder to render the old key useless (on the doors at least). The locksmith could first make a key to match the original keying pattern first so that you would not have to change the ignition lock right now and then rearrainge the plates for a different door lock key pattern. The downside is that you would have to use/carry two keys instead of one. The plus is that you would have some security!

Good Luck,
