1971 911T Targa Build Thread
 

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum but not new to restorations.
I was fortunate enough to locate a longhood 911 like I was looking for, and begin a fun and therapeutic project.
It smells old, musty and in need of some serious TLC!
But that's why I do it – to restore a brilliant machine to it's original glory.
I look forward to having some of you along for the journey.

The first thing I noticed, while trying to drive to the inspection location was a loud squeal coming from the left rear wheel.
Sounded like a stuck brake. The pedal was not returning to its nominal position after pressing, so it seemed like a good place to start.
I took up the carpet to find what I'm guessing a lot of folks find: rust. Not horrible, but definitely the place to begin.
New pedal package bearings and other components on the way! Meantime, I need to come up with a rust strategy. Open to any suggestions . .

It’s hard to tell but it might not be too bad at all, clean it up, if there is solid metal in there use something to stop the rust and paint it.

The pedal cluster can get cleaned up with a wire wheel, rebuild it with new bushings while you got it out, fresh paint and reinstall.
