3.2 vs 964 intake valves question

Same size, but 4X the price for 964 intakes. Gold filled?

Memories of the factory valves in the early 80s

Look and measure the same, but the price??

Both TRW brand.

Pelican 964 intake 964 105 409 08 $116.50
Pelican 3.2 intake 930 105 409 13 $21.50

Wazzup???

I saw a reference to 3.2 intake valves being sodium filled. I thought that it was usually exhaust valves that were sodium filled. Not sure if it's true that the 3.2 intakes are too, or why it would make them cheaper than other intake valves.

This company in Germany sells them for G-model, 930 and 964

I just ran into this predicament comparing SC and Turbo intake valves. (TRW) Dimensionally the same, but the turbo valves are more $$. I just realized I should compare weight.

I think the 964 intakes are hollow, the same valve they used in the 3.2 Clubsport.

Interesting. I love a mystery.

Zuffenwerker 09-18-2022 09:38 AM

John what is also a mystery is the quality if the sc vs turbo valves. (TRW) I’ve had to return a lot of SC valves due to too much taper in the stem up to .0015” … NEW valves! The turbo valves are consistently perfect.

Yeah, had trouble with those, too. I usually order 12 and sort through them, return the defects, if any.

All 964s use the same 964 105 409 08 intake valve, including 3.3 and 3.6 turbos. That same intake valve is specified for 78-89 930 turbos by PET.

This is what Porsche 964 training material says about the valves

I have these 964 intakes valves made by TRW (30279 part number) in my 930 engine.
They weight 113 grams each, 10 grams lighter than the original 930 intake valves.

Thank you, missed that tidbit over the years.
