AAR Stuck on Heat Soaked Engine
 

Hi guys, I'm running into what I imagine is probably a relatively common issue on my 83 911.

My AAR appears to function fine in that it opens when it's a reasonable ambient temperature and closes in about 3-4 minutes. My issue is that it apparently gets stuck when the engine is heat soaked after sitting in Texas sun. It's not so much of an issue if I'm just running in a store, etc., but is more apparent if the car has been brought up to temp and is then shut down for an hour plus. It stumbles, idle way off (300-400 RPM off), and I have difficulty clearing it even after a couple minutes when I think it should otherwise be running fine.

This same scenario played out today and I finally pulled off the hose today after car had ran (very poorly) for about 60 seconds and sure enough it was closed off nearly completely.

Any solutions for this other than a hand throttle?

The best solution is to replace the faulty part with one that works! Right?

Are you sure that it is the AAR. You could try disassembling it and cleaning it, or just spray in some oil.

I’m not certain it’s the AAR, but it was in the “closed” position after the engine had been off for 90+ minutes today.

Based on what I’ve read about the AAR, this is normal behavior - I think the test is put in 225 degree oven. Hot Porsche engine turned off in Texas sun will be 225 for a while, I think.
